Discord
2024

During my time at Discord, I was able to find opportunities for my team to bring delightful moments of animation into the app experience. Prior to my teams work, Discord had almost no in product animation. After defining motion guidelines that shaped the overall work, we collaborated with product design and engineering teams on all motion needed from loading animations to entirely new features.

App Icons
For Discord's 2024–2025 redesign, we brought motion into the app's core experience to help guide users and add some playful touches. My team and I animated over 30 core icons, working closely with engineering to get them shipped without taking a hit to performance.

Super Reactions
I partnered with Discord's product team to build Super Reactions: limited, over-the-top reactions for messages that deserve extra hype. I led the initial creative vision and scoping, directed a team of artists to animate the reactions, and oversaw all motion assets for the launch campaign.

Voice Channel Reactions
Voice Channel Reactions give Discord users a way to interact during calls without speaking over each other. When a user selects an emoji, it animates across their profile card using one of about 40 randomized variations. I worked with product to test and lock in the core concept, teamed up with engineering to get the custom emoji logic running smoothly, and handled all the After Effects animation work myself.
Nitro Tutorial
When we built a new Nitro subscriber tutorial, we wanted to draw attention to the experience while welcoming users to Nitro with a bang. The clear solution was Nitro Wumpus doing a sick barrel roll. I collaborated with product design on the concept and owned the design, animation, and implementation.
